Once you have a credit or debit card you should be able to apply for a monthly phone contract. This is one of the benefits to arranging a bank account before you leave home. The mobile phone shop will use your credit or debit card to check your personal details, such as name and address. They might make a small 1p charge to your card to check this information, which is usually refunded.

  • Three – are affiliated with Skype so you can call abroad for free or cheaply to landlines with a good connection that doesn’t use your local minutes

  • Orange – offer 2-4-1 movie tickets on Wednesdays in many major cinemas
  • T-Mobile – offer a Tourist sim for yourself or visitors
