Contactless payment / oyster cards now work all the way out to Gatwick Airport, meaning you don’t need to pre-book tickets and you can save money on your train travel.
Depending where you are travelling to/from you can either catch a regular Thameslink or Southern network train, or if you are heading south towards Victoria you can catch the Gatwick Express for a premium.
At the time of writing this post, a one way journey cost:
- £14 peak (before 10am and between 4:30-7pm Monday to Friday*).
- £8 off-peak (between 10am – 4:30pm and after 7pm Monday to Friday* and all weekends and bank holidays).
- Gatwick Express £19.80 anytime.
*Actual off-peak times vary between train companies and direction of travel, but these times provide a rough estimate.
Stations on the way to Gatwick can now also be accessed using contactless payments. These are Horley, Salfords, Earlswood, Redhill and Merstham.
